Sanderson Centre

The Sanderson Centre is an 1133 seat intimate theatre with superb acoustics and fully-equipped, state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. It doesn’t matter where you sit, you can see the stage perfectly. Designed by Thomas Lamb and opened as a Vaudeville House on December 22, 1919, it was originally named the Temple Theatre. In 1929, Famous Players purchased the theatre and renamed it The Capitol. For the next six decades the theatre entertained movie goers, and occasionally drew up the movie screen to be used as a stage. The Corporation of the City of Brantford purchased the Capitol Theatre in 1985 and began a $6,000,000.00 restoration. On December 11, 1989, the theatre was renamed the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts as a tribute to the Sanderson Family, known widely for their generous support of local good causes. The fully-restored theatre officially re-opened in September of 1990 with an Anne Murray performance.

The theatre’s history shows the magnificent design, architecture and entertainment highlights of an era and reflects the evolution and growth of Brantford’s heritage and culture. It’s this special quality that makes the Sanderson Centre an ideal location for any type of function from 2 to 1133 people. We offer on-site catering, as well as hotel and restaurant packages upon request.
